Feminism Article

In class, the article that we got about what feminism is was extremely interesting-at least to me it was :)

From the French criticism, the article said that when talking about society, men are automatically dominant, and women are placed in “an inferior position in society.” This observation came up because of the language that is spoken in society today; it is “a tool of male domination, analyzing the ways in which is represents the world from the male point of view.”

Another interesting part of the article was when the continued on how language is very important, and how it sets males and females apart from one another, and how children come into play. Children learn words that are associated with masculine and feminine stuff, and things that also relate with mother and father. Therefore, they learn toward one side more than the other, because of their gender.

Language “seems to give women a narrow range of choices.” This limits women to expressing all of their emotions in a “mature way” as males put it. But to men, they can express their feelings in a mature way. Therefore, showing the male dominance that women face in society.

Language does affect the way women and men are in society. Men seem to have a different way of talking and doing things and so do women. The way we do things makes us different. Men tend to speak in a "masculine" way and women speak in a "feminine" way. What I want to know is what if women start to speak in a more masculine way, what would happen then? Would the women start to be the dominants or would the gender race crash because both gender want to be in control?
